Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
IBS the acronym for Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a digestive condition which can cause many symptoms such as bloating, cramps, diarrhoea and constipation. IBS is common, affecting up to one in five people at some point during their life time.
Ibs affects around twice as many women as men and the exact cause is still unknown. It has been said to be related to problems digesting food and increased digestive sensitivity. It is widely believed that psychological factors like anxiety and stress play a large part in IBS.
There is no known cure for IBS currently but there a number therapies that can help manage the symptoms including dietry and lifestyle changes. Hypnotherapy is also known to be a possible treatment for IBS by he National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Using relaxation, visualisation and hypnosis to teach relaxation to manage stress and increase confidence it can help you.
How many sessions will I need?
The most effective type of therapy for you depends on your individual situation,Clinical studies conducted by the University Hospital of South Manchester, originally used a 12-session programme for patients with IBS. People respond differently to therapy and so the number of sessions required will vary from person to person. The number of sessions you’ll need will depend on your individual circumstances. We will talk about your situation and the best options for you during your initial consultation.
