Information for Hypnotherapy:

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness, in which, the subconscious mind is very alert but more receptive to suggestion. Hypnotherapy uses this altered state to suggest new thought and behaviour patterns with responses. Hypnosis is safe and natural and during hypnotherapy you are fully aware of everything you experience.

The conscious mind is only a small part of the mind as a whole. The conscious mind is responsible for analysing information, making decisions and our everyday thoughts. The subconscious mind is the part of the mind which deals with the autonomic nervous system, memories and emotions. The subconscious mind stores the individual responses and behaviours that make us who we are.

What to expect from a hypnotherapy session:

We begin with a free no obligation consultation to discuss your individual needs and goals. This can be done over the phone or Skype. Further sessions are face to face.

Hypnotherapy Sessions:

During hypnosis you will be sat, comfortably on a chair or sofa so you may acheive maximum relaxation. Background music will often be used during hypnotherapy sessions to help you enter a natural hypnotic trance. The tracks use subliminal tones designed to enhance your focus and help you reach a deeper level of relaxation.

Everyone experiences hypnosis differently. No specific feelings can be associated with being hypnotised but often it can be described as the place between sleep and being awake. As you begin to feel relaxed you could feel a heaviness in your muscles, or weightlessness as if drifting or you could have very little change other than feeling relaxed. It is an individual experience. You remain in control throughout your entire session.

Hypnotherapy is known to be very successful in addressing issues such as panic attacks, smoking cessation, weight loss and dealing with fears and phobias. During our initial consultation we will decide upon the best therapy for you and your current situation. The problem or issue you would like to address informs the number of sessions you will need.

I, your hypnotherapist will act as a guide to help you make the changes you have decided to make. To guide you into a deep state of relaxation I will use various techniques such as deep breathing, muscle relaxation and imagery. Your conscious mind will enter a state similar to daydreaming.

From here I will use various methods to teach your subconscious mind new patterns and ideas. These methods include guided imagery, visualization and suggestion. You will be both an “active” participant answering questions and such and being a “passive” participant listening as I guide you.

When the correct imagery and suggestions have been used you will be gently roused from your hypnotic trance.

Before your sessions please avoid alcohol and limit caffeine intake as these are stimulants and may inhibit your natural ability to relax.

After the sessions you can resume your normal daily activities feeling more relaxed and re-energised.

Initial Consultation:

We will have an initial FREE consultation that allows me to tailor your your individual sessions to your needs and goals. Before which you will be asked to fill out a form. This is a vital part of the process that will give us the best chance of success throughout your therapy. During the initial consultation, that normaly lasts up to  1 hour, we will go over the information provided in the form to identify any underlying problems or beliefs that may be exacerbating the problem you wish to solve. I will answer any questions during this session as well as doing some hypnosis in order to familiarise you with hypnosis and prepare you for future sessions.

Further Sessions

In order to maintain concentration levels and get the best from the process each session lasts approximately 50 to 60 minutes. The only exception is smoking cessation, which lasts between 1 ½ to 2 hours.

Hypnotherapy is Safe:

When used by a qualified hypnotherapist hypnotherapy is a safe and relaxing experience. You are fully aware and in control during your session at all times. A hypnotic state is something we each achieve naturally several times a day. You will not do anything against your will and you are not asleep at any time. Hypnotherapy is a method of self improvement. Always check if your hypnotherapist is suitably qualified. Most leave their sessions feeling refreshed and relaxed. Your success will be determined by your motivation and co-operation.


In line with The National Hypnotherapy Society’s guidelines I get regular supervision from a fully qualified and experienced therapist. During supervision there is a necessity to discuss client work but confidentiality is always maintained as the Supervisor is bound by the same code of ethics and confidentiality.

Codes of Ethics:

I am an accredited NLP Master Practitioner from the Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, an Accredited member of the National Hypnotherapy Society and I abide by their code of ethics. This Society is the only hypnotherapy organisation to hold a register, which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.


All of my therapies and treatments are offered as a complementary and alternative approach. In all cases I recommend that you continue to follow medical treatment as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Everything between client and therapist is confidential. This includes digital correspondence such as email, anything discussed over the telephone or Skype as well as anything discussed in person. This is not discussed with anyone else without your prior permission.

There are exceptions to this however, if you or someone else was at risk of harm or where a healthcare professional also involved in your care required a progress update.
